What is the Equestrian Association of Shetland?
We are a voluntary group providing a network for everybody with an equestrian interest in Shetland. It allows everybody to keep in touch and find out what is going on with horses and ponies throughout the isles.
We aim to promote equestrianism, encourage horse-riding as a sport and recreation and help members improve their skills.
We act as a representative for horses and ponies in Shetland in dealing with local and national bodies.
We are affiliated to British Riding Clubs.
To help us in our aims we have three sub-committees: Events, Grazing and the Shetland Equestrian Facilities Working Group. Please see their individual pages for more information.
Why should you join?
There are many benefits to being a member of the Equestrian Association of Shetland.
Full members receive a discount on charges and priority at any events, activities or services we provide, e.g. shows, instruction, equidentist.
We have a considerable bank of equipment which full members can borrow free of charge. More information here.
All members have access to grazing in Lerwick (by arrangement). More information here.
Also, as part of the EAS your views can be heard and we can continue to make improvements. For example, there was a need for a venue for events so we secured the former hockey pitch at Seafield, Lerwick (owned by Shetland Islands Council) for equestrian use and negotiated improvements to the facilities, a sub-committee is investigating a permanent, dedicated venue, we also have a voice on the Shetland Countryside Access Forum.
We try to keep this website up-to-date with equestrian news in Shetland. We have an events calendar with details of our activities and those of other groups. There is also a noticeboard where your own messages can be posted - For Sale, Wanted, Congratulations, etc.
All members also become British Riding Club members which offers its own considerable benefits, details of which can be found here www.britishridingclubs.org.uk
